CKX puts safety above all.

Motorcycle helmets are designed, manufactured and tested to meet performance standards. For CKX, these standards are applied for every type of helmet, whether it is for motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs etc. All of our helmets meet and even exceed the North American and European leading helmet safety standards.

By performing tests regularly, we make sure that every CKX helmet complies with the DOT FMVSS218 norm and/or the ECE22.05 certification.

But what are these standards?

DOT FMVSS218

In North America, the most common and the most recognized standard is the DOT FMVSS218 – more commonly referred to as DOT – and is administered by the U.S. Government, more specifically the Department Of Transport (DOT). It consists of a battery of tests to gauge impact protection, the retention system’s ability to keep the helmet firmly attached to the rider during such impacts, and how the helmet’s design affects the rider’s peripheral vision among other considerations.

It is important to know that this standard is mandatory for every motorcycle helmet sold in the United States as well as in Canada.

ECE22.05

Used in over 50 countries, the ECE22.05 standard is administered by the Economic Community of Europe (ECE) and is the most common internationally. While similar in many ways to the DOT standard, ECE tests for energy absorption and helmet rigidity at greater impact speeds and requires that a sample from each manufacturing batch be re-tested for compliance.

This is an important difference, for under DOT regulations, a model that passes can essentially be sold forever without being re-tested (assuming no significant revisions are made).
